When 3 Miles Is Easy

Running Gear Is Day To Day! Earlier this week its 85 degrees and humid as can be. I sweat my butt off running in a sleeveless shirt. Today it was 42 degrees out with 20 mph winds. By the end of the holiday weekend it's supposed to be back in the 70's again. I got all my winter and summer running gear on stand by because you never know what your going to get!

When Did 3 Miles Get Easy? I ran 3 miles of hill training today and at the end of it I still had some left in the tank. The only reason I stopped is because the weather was crappy and tomorrow night I'm running 5 miles. When I was done I was a little retrospective. When did  3 miles become a breeze? Last August I was gasping for air running 60 seconds straight on the Run 5K app and Tuesday I ran 6.5 miles preparing for a 10k. Consistent hard work pays off!

Longest Run Ever!

Got a personal best today! This is a short and sweet post today. In preparation for my 10k in a couple weeks I decided to stretch my legs and push myself a little further. I put my gps watch on and ran and by the time it was all said and done I ran 6.5 miles today! You know how you know you got a good run in? An hour later your still sweating!!

Heat Wave Running! After a terrible spring its finally warm but of course there is no in between. Its either snowing or 85 and humid. Well the last couple days it's been 85 and humid and when you've been running in the cold the last 5 months it's quite a shock! Will have to go get some summer running gear!

Plan for the Rest of the Weekend.... Tomorrow I'm set to go for a bike ride. Thursday will be strength training in the am and hill training in the evening. Friday will be strength training in the morning and a 5 mile run in the evening. By then my body will need a rest!

2 Week Recap

Went on a little Hiatus. I took a little hiatus from blogging but not from fitness, nutrition and life. The good news is I'm done with the 5 weeks of real estate classes. I needed to get through those classes in order to qualify to take the state exam to become a real estate agent. I still have lots of studying to do for the state exam but it won't be nearly as time consuming as the classes were. With all the classes, studying and reading I still had time to get some exercise in (but not as nearly as much as I wanted).

Got a Personal Best!! A couple Saturdays ago I ran a 5k in Downtown Rochester called the Hometown Hustle 5k. I had a pretty good run and I was able to shave 13 seconds off my personal best. Also another great thing about this one is my wife participated!. She was able to run almost the entire thing minus one killer hill at the end of the run. I know the next one she'll run the entire thing!

Not the Greatest Listener....My wife gave me a registration form and I signed it and I thought it was for the Ann Arbor marathon/10k on June 9th. I was wrong! It was actually for the Dexter/Ann Arbor 10k Run a week earlier on June 2nd. With all the studying I haven't prepared myself for this run yet. I run 5 miles several times a week so it shouldn't be a stretch to bump it up a little. Tomorrow night weather permitting I'm gonna try to hit 6 plus miles.

Homestretch For Mudder! With 41 days left until Tough Mudder I got to make an extra effort to train hard. With my time freed up in the evening I'm going to implement some two-a-days. Tomorrow will be the beginning of my new amped up regiment. Can't wait to see how it goes!

How Many Races?

Signed Up for 2 Races! I've been so busy with real estate classes that I haven't had a lot of time to blog but rest assured I haven't been slacking on my fitness or diet. Matter of fact today I signed up for two races. First one is this Saturday in my hometown of Rochester called the Hometown Hustle. It's a pretty standard 5k but I haven't ran one since the Super 5k in February so I'm excited. The next one I signed up for is in June and it's a bigger deal for me....

Ok it's not what you think.... I'm not running in the marathon but I am participating in the 10k run that the Ann Arbor Marathon is hosting. I signed up for a couple reasons. First my wife's employer is paying for my registration fee and second the Tough Mudder is 53 days away! I'm not too worried about running it because I already run 5 miles twice a week so this won't be a huge leap. But this is exciting to sign up for my first 10k!

2 More Weeks of Class!  I'm nearly done with class and that's a good thing because I'm exhausted. Had my first interview with a prospective real estate office today. Pretty exciting stuff!

First 80 degree Run This Year!

80 Degrees and Sunny!! Today was our first 80 degree day here in Michigan so this evening a run was almost mandatory  I did a 3 mile run in the hills and the temperature outside was a little bit of a shock to the body. I was wearing just a pair of shorts and a t shirt and I was still drenched in sweat when I was done. I chalk it up to the big temperature swing. 3 weeks ago it was snowing!

Mackinac Island Trails & Locations Map
A Little Get Away This Weekend! So this weekend we are taking my mom to Mackinac Island for her birthday.  If you ever been you know that there are parts of it that are completely a tourist trap. Fudge, horses and gift shops line the downtown area. When you get out of that area its unbelievably cool though. It has miles of trails to bike and run with a lot of historic places as well. I'll be hauling my bike on the ferry and will report back on how many miles I get in.

Exhausted! It's Wednesday and I am completely exhausted. Between work, 2 a day workouts and class I'm pooped! Luckily I'm taking the day off from work Friday to drive up to Mackinac Island. I get through tomorrow and it's all down hill after that!

Worked My Tail Off Today!

Full Days Work!  Spring has finally gotten here and I've been chomping at the bit to step my training up for Tough Mudder. This morning I got a weight lifting session in before work and after work I hit it hard again. I ran hills for 3 miles, did some burpees and then biked for 7 miles. I feel pretty accomplished. Really looking forward to doing this a few times a week.
Am I gonna be able to do this?
Need Some Privacy!  The picture above is one of the obstacles in the Tough Mudder. Basically it's a serious set of monkey bars. So today while I was on a bike ride I stopped by a couple play grounds to give the monkey bars a shot but I chickened out. Why? There were tons of kids at each one. I would feel like a total jack ass waiting for my turn! So I need to maybe try some early morning weekends to get some practice!

Sunday Felt Weird!  It was weird not getting on the scale like I normally do every Sunday morning. It felt weird but at the same time it felt good not to worry about the results either. I think I'll weigh in June 28th to see where I'm at leading up to Tough Mudder.

5 Mile Run at 5 am Tomorrow Morning!

Putting the Scale In Storage!

Making A Decision And Sticking With It! With the Tough Mudder 67 days away I've been struggling with the path I should be taking. I need to keep gaining upper body strength, and I need to keep losing weight. Am I losing too much weight and that's hurting my upper body strength? Am I focusing to much on muscle gain and not losing enough weight? I'm done thinking about it so I'm making a couple moves. First I'm going to continue to train hard and eat right. That's not going to change. The second thing I'm going to do is put the scale away for the next 67 days. If I work hard and eat right I'm going to be in the best possible shape come Tough Mudder time. What the scale says is irrelevant  This will take some will power not to weigh in.

Can We Have A Little Spring Here? I was looking out the window today at work and it was snowing!! I really thought I'd be training a lot more than I have been outside. The snow and rain that we have been getting all month has turned my area into a flooded cold mess. There were ducks swimming in my backyard! Checked the extended forecast and its showing some days in the 60's and sunny soon. Hoping for once the weatherman is right!

6 Days A Week! Normally I take two days off a week from the gym but since I've been taking these classes I haven't been able to. Usually I'd be at the gym one of those nights I'm in class so to make up for it I spread my workouts over 6 days instead of 5. Doesn't seem to be negatively effecting me yet...

67 Days Until Tough Mudder!
