My First Day At the Gym

Getting Familiar with the Layout.  As I blogged yesterday I joined a Gym.  I got the tour of the gym yesterday but until you start working out everything seems a little foreign. My goal today was to get my feet wet weight training and at the same time walk around a little bit and get familiar with what I have available to me. I did a very short workout with weights and then I got on the treadmill. I know I'll be sore tomorrow because I haven't picked up a weight in a long time. Here is what I did:
  • Incline Bench Press (Chest) 4 sets
  • Machine Press (Shoulders) 4 sets
  • Machine Press down (Triceps) 4 sets
  • 35 minute run on the treadmill
Plan for the rest of the week.  Tomorrow I'll train legs and Saturday I'll hit my back and biceps. At the end of each workout I"ll finish on the treadmill.  I'm going to take baby steps with weight training just like I did with my running. I didn't start off running 30 minutes. I had to gradually build up to that. I'll be adding more and more as I get stronger. I'm also considering a Training Journal that way I can try to track my improvement with every workout. This week I'm just going to get my feet wet and familiarize myself with strength training again.

PS- Three weeks from now on Thanksgiving I'll be running in the Turkey Trot in Downtown Detroit!

  1. OMG Joe...33 minutes?? You are a machine! I can only hope to finish my 5k in twice that time. I still have 3 weeks and is called "Chigger Chase" lol.
I am a wuss too and will not run in the cold but go pay our local gym a dollar to walk/run in comfort! lol Keep up the hard work Joe....you are doing awesome!

    1. You'll run faster than you think! Running in an actual race gets your adrenaline up and you'll run faster than you do when your training. The weather here is now in the 30's at night so I'm glad I'm in doors now. Don't think I could take it day in and day out.
