Part 2 Of New Year's Resolutions 2.0

You have to spell out your goals. A couple days ago I posted My New Year's Resolutions 2.0. In this piece I listed a few goals that I want to accomplish in 2013. When I look at these goals today they seem big but when you break them down into smaller pieces they seem down right easy. Consistency is the key. Doing what I'm supposed to be doing all day every day and I'm going to surpass these goals before the years up. I want to expand on each one a little bit
  • Losing 50 Pounds in 2013.  50 pounds is a lot of weight when you really think about it. I mean that's the weight of a small child! Break it down though and 50 pounds in 1 year is easy if you spread it out over 365 days. 50 pounds in a year equals 4.16 pounds a month. Sensible Diet + Exercise + Consistency = This goal is no problem!
  • Run a 5k in under 30 minutes.  I'm at 31 minutes 39 seconds which means I have to shave 1 minute 39 seconds from my personal best. Bottom line I have to start running a 9.7 minute mile. Every week I have to get faster. The first week in February I'm aiming at another 5k. I'd like to shave 30 seconds off my personal best.
  • Compete in 1 "extreme" race. This one is just a matter of spending time in the gym weight lifting and on the treadmill. Races like Tough Mudder and Warrior Dash are one part cardiovascular and one part obstacle course. In the early spring I'll pick one that will be in the state of Michigan.
I think a goal tracker is in order.  It's one thing to say you have a resolution its another to actually pursue it. I think I want to create some kind of goal tracker for Losing 50 pounds and Running a 5k in under 30 minutes. I'm hoping that these goals will be completed well before December of 2013!

PS- Why does guy on tread mill run sideways? Does he say "the reason I'm overweight is because I need to work on my sideways running?".
