The Good And The Bad

Sunday was a day of Ups and Downs.  I have good news and bad news to report about yesterday. Let's start with the bad news and finish strong with the good news so we end it feeling all warm and fuzzy!

The Bad......Sunday morning I jumped on the scale for my weekly weigh in and I didnt' like what it had to say. It read 283 pounds which means I didn't lose any weight this week! It also means my bold ass prediction of losing 3 pounds this week didn't happen. My exercise went perfect last week. I did everything I was supposed to do. Looking back at my diet I only see a few meals that I could have improved. I made stuffed green peppers one day using turkey burger and wheat Bulgar. Perhaps that dinner had to many carbs? Grocery shopping this week I bought a lot of meat for grilling and veiggies for roasting. Lets see if that helps. Enough of the bad. Lets talk about the good!

The Good.....One of my goals for 2013 was to run a 5k in under 30 minutes. I can check that off the list!! If you were to tell me Sunday morning that I was going to do it I wouldn't have believed you. It was 6 degrees that morning and when I got in my car to drive to the race I was regretting that I signed up for this one.

6 Degrees Before The Race
Things warmed up quickly.  As cold as it was when you dress for it and run your ass off you don't really notice how cold it is until you stop. About 5 mins in and I was warm and didn't even notice the ice building up on my beard. At about the 20 minute mark I knew I had a shot so I kicked it up a notch. The last stretch when I could see the finish I went into sprint mode which really wasn't much of sprint because my legs were dead at that point. I knew it was going to be close so when I finished I went to the monitors to see if I made it. I seen my name and it said I ran 29 minutes 22 seconds! All the pain and cold went away because I was so excited that I did it!

I was a little frosty afterwards!
What's Next? With my 5k in under 30 minutes goal complete my attention is turning to training for the Tough Mudder I signed up for in June.  I started this morning by increasing the number of sets I'm doing at the gym. Improving my cardio and strength are going to be huge for an event like this. My next 5k will most likely be sometime in March and probably be a St Patricks day race but I'm still researching.

PS-No bold ass prediction this week. I'm just going to focus on doing the work, eating the right food and we will see what the scale has to say next Sunday!

  4. Awesome job on the 5K!!!!! I ate low carb, low fat, low sodium to lose the weight and there would be weeks where the scale wouldn't budge, then suddenly I'd get a big drop. Just be patient my friend, it will all work out:)

  5. I'm curious about how you are training for your 5K's.

As for me, I just do "long slow distance." Nothing fancy. I run at whatever pace feels good and just do the distance. I would hope you are running around 20 miles a week. Maybe five miles four times. That should give you a decent 5K.

    What do you think?
